From Norwich Free Academy
Norwich Free Academy, incorporated in 1854, is the only remaining privately governed, independently endowed regional day academy in the state of Connecticut. It serves 8 partner districts (Bozrah, Canterbury, Franklin, Lisbon, Norwich, Preston, Sprague, and Voluntown). As a school of choice, NFA accepts students who choose to attend, and by agreement, their sending communities fund tuition. NFA also serves private tuition including 60 international students. Located on a beautifully landscaped 38 acre, nine-building campus, nestled like a small New England College on the east side of the city of Norwich, the Academy serves 2,256 students (Oct. 1, 2018 census). It is diverse ethnically, economically, and linguistically. Students speak more than 33 different primary languages at home; 272 students (11.6%), born outside the U.S. Today’s NFA is 1.5% American Indian, 7.8% Asian, 16.6% Black, 53.8% Caucasian, 15.6% Hispanic, .6% Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander, and 4.2% other.
