New Orleans Center for Creative Arts Reviews

NOCCA provides a unique atmosphere for those individuals who share a passion for multidisciplinary arts. There is no other public school like this in the area or state, but it's perfectly located in the cultured city of New Orleans. It's a place where students feel safe to share their ideas and creative experiences. They offer a wealth of pre-professional learning opportunities from not only their instructors who have worked in the field which they teach but from guest artists traveling from all over the country to offer discipline specific workshops and master classes. Just as their arts environment is unique, so is their style of academic learning, which consists of project-based learning of combined subjects. It's great for abstract thinkers and is easily preparing students for the workforce.
Its a great school overall. I recommend those who want to attend to participate full-time as an Academic Student and Arts Student. Everything you learn at NOCCA is preparing you for life after Highschool.
In the Musical Theater department, there was a lot of unscheduled time and lack of communication between teachers and students. The attitude of the head teacher was passive agressiveness and it caused a lot of stress for students. There was also some administrative issues with Title IX that my friend experienced. There's also a very strict dress code which students are unhappy with. This year, the Musical Theater department has transitioned to Theater Arts which has been a welcome improvement.
