    From Metrolina Regional Scholars Academy

Scholars Academy was founded over twenty years ago to provide a specialized education to a segment of children who were being underserved in schools: highly gifted students.

Representing only 2% of the population, highly gifted individuals come from all socio-economic groups, backgrounds, and cultures. Since academics come more easily to these students, the highly gifted are frequently overlooked in the traditional classroom. However, this segment of the population actually has unique intellectual, social, and emotional needs. When these needs aren’t met, highly gifted students may underachieve, act up, or eventually, drop out.

Scholars Academy's purpose is to find this overlooked group of children and offer a special place in North Carolina where these students are accepted and appreciated for exactly who they are. A public K-8 charter school, Scholars Academy has been serving the unique intellectual, social, and emotional needs of highly gifted children since 2000.
