    Durango School District is an innovative educational system committed to excellence. We have welcoming schools, a friendly staff, and caring teachers.

    Our district is located in La Plata County in Southwest Colorado. This region is at the foot of the beautiful San Juan Mountains. Durango is a safe and friendly mountain town, with a river running through it. Our students have plenty of opportunities for hands-on learning and activities in the great outdoors.

    We serve approximately 4,400 students in 8 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, 2 high schools, and online and homeschool options. The district has approximately 880 staff, and 440 dedicated and caring teachers.

    We help students find a pathway that combines their passions and talents into a career that the world needs. Our district is unified by Portrait of a Graduate, which is a shared vision of what qualities our graduates need in order to be positive contributors to society and have a good quality of life.
