From Commonwealth School
Commonwealth is a private co-ed high school dedicated to adventurous intellectual and artistic exploration—where creativity and individuality flourish. Our curriculum is rooted in rigorous analysis, focused attention, and inquiry. Students take full advantage of our Boston location to pursue scholarly research, independent projects, and community service.
Faculty work closely with students to explore their unique interests, develop problem-solving skills, and boost their confidence. Examples of college-level electives include Axiomatic Set Theory, Shakespeare & the Fairy Tale, Programming Languages, and Advanced Topics in Neuroscience.
Students come to Commonwealth in search of peers as kind, inquisitive, passionate, and principled as they are—and they find them in a close-knit community of 154 students from 40+ communities around Boston. Together, they push themselves academically, pursue new interests, and grow into thoughtful young adults who excel in college, career, and life.

Uncommon On and Off the Field
The exuberance that characterizes Commonwealth students in the classroom also shows up on the soccer field, the basketball court, the fencing piste, and all the other places Mermaids play sports. Whether they’re climbing a rock wall in South Boston or sailing on the Charles River, our students throw themselves into their athletics. And their zeal extends to the way they cheer one another on.
