It has been a really new and somewhat scary transition into adulthood, but UW Stout has made the experience so much fun! I have loved the atmosphere of the smaller town than Minneapolis where I am from. Being someone of Hispanic background I was worried about not fitting in race wise but there are many different people from all walks of life and so many clubs making it feel like home.
My overall experience at UW Stout has been positive. There’s a wide array of interesting classes offered. The major-related classes and electives are taught by passionate people in the field. The professors and staff are almost always kind, helpful, and flexible with students. The university is overall aptly funded, and provides a lot of resources to students in most majors.
It's far from perfect, though. Some majors tend to get overlooked when it comes to support. While the art program at Stout is one of the largest draws to the university, the art facilities still often fall short. For example, many art and design programs require relevant work experience/internships, but the polytechnic doesn’t provide the same resources it provides other majors. Many programs get career fairs and direct connections to professionals in a way that design students don't receive. The art building also remains one of the oldest buildings on campus, yet little budget is put into maintenance.

I really enjoyed the commuter parking pass. A pass you can buy each year or each semester, which allows you to park in what feels like 20 different parking lots on campus. I also like how all the instructors are willing to work with you as long as you communicate with them and are obviously putting effort into the class. A certain thing I dislike, specifically about some classes, is that some instructors post video lectures that are expected to be watched outside of class. This is not entirely horrible but wether I have the time or not to watch them, they are always slow speaking and very long; something that is hard to pay attention to. Lastly, I would like to mention how textbooks are almost always built into a students tuition. Meaning that students don’t have to go out and buy textbooks. They either get them online or they just need to be picked up at the library to be rented for free.
