What is a yoga and movement therapy major?

This program prepares individuals to use functional and expressive integration strategies to help promote somatic awareness and optimal psychophysical functioning. Includes instruction in skilled touch techniques, kinesthetic awareness processes, movement observation, patterning, client assessment and guidance, verbal and nonverbal communication, practice management, professional standards and ethics, and specific therapeutic and educational modalities.

How popular is yoga and movement therapy as a major?

Each year, around 60 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 5 students obtain an associate degree in yoga and movement therapy. In 2021, 70 students received a bachelor's degree and fewer than 5 students received an associate degree. This is 28% more yoga and movement therapy majors than there were in 2020. Yoga and movement therapy is a relatively uncommon major within kinesiology and physical therapy.
