What is a voice and opera major?

Voice and opera course series train students to master the human voice and performing art as solo and/or ensemble performers in concert, choir, opera, or other forms of singing. Classes focus on voice pedagogy, diction, vocal physiology and exercise, expressive movement, repertoire, recital, and personal style development.

How popular is voice and opera as a major?

Each year, around 350 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 5 students obtain an associate degree in voice and opera. In 2021, 331 students received a bachelor's degree and 5 students received an associate degree. This is 8% fewer voice and opera majors than there were in 2020. Voice and opera is a relatively uncommon major within music.
