What is a public health education major?

A curriculum that concentrates on the application of educational and communications principles and methods to the promotion of preventive health measures and the education of targeted populations on health issues, and prepares individuals to function as public health educators and health promotion specialists. Courses focus on human development, health issues across the life span, population-specific health issues, principles and methods of public health education, administration of health education campaigns and programs, evaluation methods, public communications, and applications to specific public health subjects and issues.

How popular is public health education as a major?

Each year, around 3,090 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 90 students obtain an associate degree in public health education. In 2021, 3,127 students received a bachelor's degree and 79 students received an associate degree. This is relatively the same number of public health education majors as there were in 2020. Public health education is one of the most popular majors within public health.
