What is a police and criminal science major?

This program trains students to perform the duties of police and public security officers, including patrol and investigative activities, traffic control, crowd control and public relations, witness interviewing, evidence collection and management, basic crime prevention methods, weapon and equipment operation and maintenance, report preparation and other routine law enforcement responsibilities, both on land and sea.

How popular is police and criminal science as a major?

Each year, around 3,350 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 11,700 students obtain an associate degree in police and criminal science. In 2021, 3,653 students received a bachelor's degree and 7,795 students received an associate degree. This is 2% more police and criminal science majors than there were in 2020. Police and criminal science is one of the most popular majors within criminal justice.
