What is a music management major?

Music management curriculums teach students to organize and manage music organizations, operations, facilities, and personnel. Specific course topics include business and financial management, marketing and fundraising, personnel management and labor relations, event promotion and management, music products merchandising, artist agency and promotion, music law, and applications to specific activities such as managing theaters, recording studios and companies, bands and other ensembles, individual artists, and music organizations.

How popular is music management as a major?

Each year, around 1,560 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 180 students obtain an associate degree in music management. In 2021, 1,428 students received a bachelor's degree and 187 students received an associate degree. This is 11% fewer music management majors than there were in 2020. Music management is one of the most popular majors within music.
