What is a marketing major?

Marketing programs generally prepare individuals to undertake and manage the process of developing consumer audiences and moving products from producers to consumers. Course topics include: buyer behavior and dynamics, principle of marketing research, demand analysis, cost-volume and profit relationships, pricing theory, marketing campaign and strategic planning, market segments, advertising methods, sales operations and management, consumer relations, retailing, and applications to specific products and markets.

Those in the top 10 percent make over $182,400 a year, while the bottom 10 percent make under $25,000 a year. While salary ranges can vary by role, industry, and location, marketing graduates typically make between $45,000 and $115,000 per year.

How popular is marketing as a major?

Each year, around 42,700 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 1,770 students obtain an associate degree in marketing. In 2021, 45,251 students received a bachelor's degree and 1,733 students received an associate degree. This is relatively the same number of marketing majors as there were in 2020. Marketing is one of the most popular majors within business and management.
