What is a kinesiology and exercise science major?

This scientific program focuses on the anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, and biophysics of human movement, and applications to exercise and therapeutic rehabilitation. This includes instruction in biomechanics, motor behavior, motor development and coordination, motor neurophysiology, performance research, rehabilitative therapies, the development of diagnostic and rehabilitative methods and equipment, and related analytical methods and procedures in applied exercise and therapeutic rehabilitation.

How popular is kinesiology and exercise science as a major?

Each year, around 25,600 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 1,980 students obtain an associate degree in kinesiology and exercise science. In 2021, 27,120 students received a bachelor's degree and 2,467 students received an associate degree. This is 5% more kinesiology and exercise science majors than there were in 2020. Kinesiology and exercise science is one of the most popular majors within kinesiology and physical therapy.
