What is a horticulture major?

Horticultural studies focus on the general production and processing of domesticated plants, shrubs, flowers, foliage, trees, groundcovers, and related plant materials. They also cover the management of technical and business operations connected with horticultural services, as well as the basic scientific principles needed to understand plants and their management and care.

How popular is horticulture as a major?

Each year, around 720 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 870 students obtain an associate degree in horticulture. In 2021, 713 students received a bachelor's degree and 689 students received an associate degree. This is 13% fewer horticulture majors than there were in 2020. Horticulture is one of the most popular majors within agricultural sciences.
