What is a general global studies major?

Students of area and ethnic studies focus on the history, society, politics, culture, and economics of one or more of the peoples of the African continent, usually with an emphasis on Africa south of the Sahara, and including the African diasporas overseas. Subtopics include African studies, North American studies, Asian studies, European and Russian studies, Latin American studies, as well as minority studies, among others.

How popular is general global studies as a major?

Each year, around 1,050 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 20 students obtain an associate degree in general global studies. In 2021, 953 students received a bachelor's degree and 55 students received an associate degree. This is 7% more general global studies majors than there were in 2020.
