Fashion and apparel merchandising programs teach individuals to promote product lines/brands and organize promotional campaigns at the wholesale level to attract retailer interest, wholesale purchasing, and supply contracts. Subtopics include fashion modeling and apparel and accessories marketing operations. Course topics may involve wholesaling, wholesale advertising, selling, and customer relations.

How popular is fashion and apparel merchandising as a major?

Each year, around 2,750 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 1,700 students obtain an associate degree in fashion and apparel merchandising. In 2021, 2,223 students received a bachelor's degree and 1,393 students received an associate degree. This is 7% fewer fashion and apparel merchandising majors than there were in 2020. Fashion and apparel merchandising is a relatively popular major compared to other business and management majors.
