What is a drawing major?

Studio art majors with a focus in drawing are prepared creatively and technically to express emotions, ideas, or inner visions through representation by lines made on a surface. Specific course topics include: eye-hand coordination; line, value, shape, and perspective; figure and still life drawing; the use of media such as pen and ink, pencil, charcoal, pastel, and brush; and personal style development.

How popular is drawing as a major?

Each year, around 270 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 25 students obtain an associate degree in drawing. In 2021, 258 students received a bachelor's degree and 19 students received an associate degree. This is 3% fewer drawing majors than there were in 2020. Drawing is a relatively popular major compared to other art majors.
