What is a diesel mechanics major?

Studies in diesel mechanics teaches individuals to use what they learn to repair, service, and maintain diesel engines in vehicles such as automobiles, buses, ships, trucks, railroad locomotives, and construction equipment; as well as stationary diesel engines in electrical generators and related equipment.

How popular is diesel mechanics as a major?

Each year, around 30 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 2,560 students obtain an associate degree in diesel mechanics. In 2021, 26 students received a bachelor's degree and 2,349 students received an associate degree. This is relatively the same number of diesel mechanics majors as there were in 2020. Diesel mechanics is one of the most popular majors within mechanics.
