What is a cyber/computer forensics and counterterrorism major?

Cyber/computer forensics and counterterrorism programs that focus on the principles and techniques used to identify, search, seize and analyze digital media and to conduct cyber investigations against criminal and terrorist activity. Includes instruction in computer boot processes and drives, jumper setting, file access and reconstruction, hacking, network systems, cryptography, programming, investigative techniques, forensic imagery, web-based investigation methods, cyberterrorism, and applicable laws and administrative procedures.

Each year, around 600 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 220 students obtain an associate degree in cyber/computer forensics and counterterrorism. In 2021, 629 students received a bachelor's degree and 244 students received an associate degree. This is 14% more cyber/computer forensics and counterterrorism majors than there were in 2020. Cyber/computer forensics and counterterrorism is a relatively uncommon major within criminal justice.
