What is a community psychology major?

Students of community psychology prepare to apply psychological principles to the analysis of social problems, and the implementation of intervention strategies for addressing these problems. It includes instruction in social ecology, primary and secondary prevention of social pathologies, social intervention strategies and tactics, large group counseling, social services systems behavior, creating settings, cultural stress, and the dynamics of social change.

Each year, around 390 students obtain a bachelor’s degree in community psychology. In 2021, 349 students received a bachelor's degree. This is 6% more community psychology majors than there were in 2020. Community psychology is a relatively uncommon major within psychology.
