What is an acting major?

A program in acting prepares individuals to communicate dramatic information, ideas, moods, and feelings through the achievement of naturalistic and believable behavior in imaginary circumstances. It includes instruction in voice and acting speech, stage dialects, movement, improvisation, acting styles, theatre history, script interpretation, and actor coaching.

How popular is acting as a major?

Each year, around 1,050 students obtain a bachelor’s degree and around 370 students obtain an associate degree in acting. In 2021, 1,109 students received a bachelor's degree and 397 students received an associate degree. This is 4% more acting majors than there were in 2020. Acting is a relatively uncommon major within performing arts.
