I am a full time student enrolled in the Music and Audio Technology associates degree program. I enjoy many aspects of this school. The professors are very knowledgeable, with many having vast amounts of real world experience in their field. I find the classes to be interesting and thought provoking. They are challenging yet rewarding if you are willing to put in the effort. While I don't have any complaints on the academic side, there are a few areas that could use improvement. There is no food on campus, and the closest restaurants are places like McDonald's, Chipotle, and Subway. These are not the healthiest food options and unfortunately many students rely on these places for lunch. Additionally, the campus closes at around 9 PM. This makes it difficult to complete projects that require the use of on campus technology, such as the recording studio for my audio engineering class.
With me being a dual-enrolled high schooler (attending both Suny Schenectady County Community College and Schenectady High School at the same time) my experience at the college has been a bit unique. Teachers/professors for the most part treat me as they would any regular college student. This is much appreciated because I can get experience in what it's truly like to be a college student. I also love the environment on campus. There are many available resources such as tutoring centers and free computers. Students on campus have also been very friendly for the most part.
SCCC is a good community college. The teachers care. The online classes could be better structured but in person instruction is good.
